The play-offs

The last round of the qualifying stage of the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018 is underway. The first leg of the women’s qualifier has kicked off a very busy couple of weeks that will decide which teams will book a ticket to the big final held at the Picornell this summer.

The first leg results are:

Slovakia-Turkey 11-11

Czech Republic-Croatia 6-9

Israel-Portugal 14-10

Serbia-Ukraine 10-8

Germany-Romania 22-14

France-Switzerland, 19-1.

The second leg is scheduled for March 3.

The women’s teams that have already qualified for the final are Hungary, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Russia and Spain.

In the men's category, the first leg of the playoffs have yielded the following results:

France-Switzerland 18-1

Romania-Czech Republic 20-5

Poland-Germany 2-21

The Netherlands-Lithuania 26-7

Portugal-Slovakia 4-16

Georgia-Israel 12-1

Belarus-Malta 8-7

Ukraine-Turkey 8-8

The second leg is scheduled for March 3.

The eight best teams from the latest European Championships, held in Belgrade in 2016, have sealed their pass to Barcelona 2018: Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, Greece, Russia, Italy and Spain.

A total of 45 teams registered for Barcelona 2018. In the first rounds, Bulgaria and Austria were eliminated in the men’s category and Malta in the women’s.

The draw ceremony will take place on March 7 at the RTVE Sant Cugat studios and will be broadcasted live on Teledeporte.
