Spain women´s team kicks off their preparations ahead of July 14

Spain´s women´s water polo national team are the first to initiate the final preparations ahead of the 2018 Barcelona European Water Polo Championships. Taking advantage of the fact that the Superfinal of the World League has come to an end, Miki Oca’s squad has started work right away to be ready for the biggest competition of the season. The High Performance Center in Sant Cugat will serve as the headquarters for them, which at first will host the team until next Saturday. Lead by Oca, Ángel Andreo, and Mirka Blazevic, the members of the Spanish team will focus on the last stage of preparations before the championships begin. Their schedule is as follows:

First, the team will hold a scrimmage match against Australia in Barcelona. Later on, they will take part in a classic summer tournament, the Portugalete, from June 22-24, in which they will face Russia, Greece, and Australia. Then, the team will participate in the Mediterranean Games starting on June 27, in which they were drawn in group A along with Greece and Portugal. Finally, they will travel to Perpignan during the first days of July to participate in a friendly tournament against France, China, and Russia.

The Spanish national team, runners up in the last World Championships, are amongst the favorites to claim the crown at Barcelona 2018. Their debut will be against the defending champions, Hungary, on July 14. Afterwards, they will play have to battle against Serbia, Russia, Turkey, and Germany, which are the other members of Group B.
