Spain defeat the Netherlands in the World League, set eyes on upcoming Europa Cup
The Spanish men’s national team claimed a solid victory today against the Netherlands (4-12), in a match played at the Dortrecht Sport Boulevard Pool, and are now second in the European qualifying group for the World League. David Martín’s squad met all expectations, dominating the clash for minute 1.
Spain did not miss the chance, and had a six-goal-lead at the end of the second quarter. The quarters were: 0-4, 1-2, 2-4, 1-2.
The Spaniards are now tied with Hungary, that lead Group C with two victories. Both teams will face each other in the last day, on April 10, which will determine the final classification. In Hungary, Tamas Marcz’s men defeated the Spanish national team 9-8.
Martín’s squad has a tight schedule ahead. The team will fly back to Barcelona tomorrow before traveling to Hungary to compete in the qualifying stage of the Europa Cup, the new Winter competition organized by LEN.
Spain will make their debut on Friday against Georgia, the undisputable underdog of the competition, and will later go on to play Romania, France and Hungary.
