Red Star claims fifth consecutive Serbian League title
Serbia, the top European men’s water polo country, now knows its women’s league champion, Belgrade’s Red Star. This is the fifth consecutive title for the historic club, which claimed the title after defeating Palilua at the Milan Gale Muskatirovic Pool 7-3 (av. 2-0).
The champions had initially cruised to a solid victory in Belgrade in the first leg of the play-off final (9-4), and the odds were in their favor as they had practically sealed the championship. The squad represents the backbone of the Spanish national team which will travel to Spain in July to take part in the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018.
The third spot went to Vojvodina, which defeated Senta Jrdo in the bronze medal game.
In Barcelona 2018, the Serbians will compete in Group B. They will make their debut against Germany on July 14th and will later face Russia, Hungary, Spain and Turkey.
