The draw of the last stage of the qualifiers for Barcelona 2018 to be held on November 4 in Budapest
The draw for two-legged ties of the last qualifying stage for the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018 will be held on November 4 in Budapest during the LEN Bureau meeting, coinciding with the European Supercup. The final round of the qualifier will consist of eight play-offs in the men’s category and six in the women’s. A total of 28 teams will fight for a ticket to the big final, but only half of them will be given the chance to compete at the Picornell Pool.
The first qualified men’s teams from the Rio Maior (Portugal) and Gorzow (Poland) qualifiers, Ukraine and Belarus, will face the teams classified 15 and 16 in the latest European Championships held in Belgrade. Portugal and Israel will meet those that took the 13th and 14th spots, Lithuania and Poland will play against the 11 and 12, and the Czech Republic and Switzerland will face the teams that took the 9th and 10th spots.
The standings at the European Championships Belgrade 2016 were: 9 France, 10 Romania, 11 Germany, 12 The Netherlands, 13 Slovakia, 14 Georgia, 15 Malta and 16 Turkey.
In the women’s category, the draw will determine the order of the matches, since the results of the Kiev qualifier determined the play-offs:
Slovakia – Turkey
The Czech Republic – Croatia
Israel – Portugal
Ukraine – Serbia
Romania – Germany
Switzerland – France
The last round ahead of Barcelona 2018 will take place on February 17 and March 3. In case of a tie, the second match will be played until a winner is determined.
