Barcelona 2018: The youngest is Croatian and the oldest, Maltese
Maltese water polo player Aurelien Cousin will be the oldest athlete at the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018. Cousin celebrated his 38th birthday last February. Dani López Pinedo, Spain’s goalkeeper, also born in 1980, will be the same age when the competition begins. The youngest player will be Mojca Jereb who, at 14, has joined the ranks of the Croatian national team.
These are some of the figures from the preliminary lists submitted by the participating squads, which may still be subject to change. Cousin is likely to travel to Barcelona as he is one of the key players of the Maltese squad, but whether or not Jereb will be in Barcelona this Summer will be up to Croatian head coach Dragan Matitunovic.
Cousin and Jereb were both born in February, 24 years apart. The Croatian is one of the few Gen Zs in the preliminary lists for Barcelona 2018. Water polo continues to confirm to tendency to have higher age averages than other sports.
