Two thrilling shows produced by the companies Brodas Bros and Toom Park, and a mapping projection on the waters of the Bernat Picornell Pool will be at the center of the opening ceremony of the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018, which will begin at 21:30pm on July 14th.
The ceremony will precede the highly-anticipated clash between Spain and Hungary, the most exciting match of the day, which will begin at 22:15pm. The Spanish national team is the current world runner-up and Hungary is the European reining champion, so there is no doubt spectators will be able to enjoy a world-class duel between two of the heavy favorites to lift the title at the Picornell.
The parade of nations with the 17 participating countries will open the official event, whose presentation of flags will be the first innovative detail: flags will be integrated inside water polo balls, in accordance with the global concept of the event which has been the guiding thread throughout the promotional campaign.
Brodas Bros is an international hip hop, dance and urban culture company established in Barcelona 12 years ago, with a solid track record captivating children and adults with their energy, humor, technique and imagination.
In addition to this performance full of rhythm, the artistic part of the ceremony will be produced by the Toom Park band, atypical musicians and percussionists who will put on a vibrant show. “The energy of percussion in its purest state” defines their performances.
Over 200 square meters of screens around the Picornell Pool will turn the show into a unique visual experience filled with music, magic and color.
Speeches by Ada Colau, Mayor of Barcelona, Paolo Barelli, President of LEN, and Fernando Carpena, President of the Organizing Committee of Barcelona 2018, and a mapping projection inspired by the birth of the “water polo fever” in connection with the creation of the Universe and the passion for the sport, will be the cherry on top of what is expected to be a memorable ceremony.
Two days later, coinciding with the start of the men’s competition, Brodas Bros and Toom Parks will repeat their performances – this time without the institutional speeches. This second opening ceremony is scheduled for July 16th between the 20:30 pm match, Serbia-Romania, and the 22:15pm Spain-Malta duel.
